Hello Parents and Students of English 11,

On April 22, our classes will begin taking the new Common Core English Language Arts tests through the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC). The tests will be taken in the computer lab during our English class block days. All of the work we do in class should prepare students to take the new tests, however taking the tests online with an interactive screen will be new to all of us.

This is an extra credit opportunity to practice and experience what students might expect in taking this new type of assessment. The practice tests are online and require internet access. Students may practice the test after school on the library computers if they do not have access at home. To receive extra credit, simply finish the tests and print the final feedback screen or email it to me by Tuesday, April 21. If students do not have enough time to finish the full practice tests, they should print or email the last screen completed. What is most important is for students to experience the test interaction. There are two ELA tests to practice, the ELA Practice Test and the ELA Performance Task. Students may do one or both, or parts of both. Again, the most useful part is to experience the test interface.
